Housewife beaten to death for dowry

The victim was identified as Khorsheda, 28, wife of Md Ali who lives in Khilkhet area.

Khorsheda was beaten mercilessly by her husband who hit her in the abdomen causing profuse bleeding. She died on the spot, said Abdus Salam, victim's brother while talking to The Daily Star.

He said Ali had been demanding dowry since Khorsheda's marriage 10 years back.

"About three months back, Ali again demanded Tk 1 lakh which we refused to pay," Salam said, adding that they earlier gave Ali money in dowry on several occasions.

He lodged a case with Khilkhet Police Station accusing 10 people including Ali under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act.

Police said they could not arrest anyone as of yesterday evening.
