I knew nothing about smuggle of drugs

Metropolitan Magistrate Nani Gopal Biswas recorded the confessional statement of Mohammad Mainuddin, also nephew of BD Foods Chairman Badruddoza Chowdhury Momen and ordered to send him to Dhaka Central Jail.

In his confession, Mainuddin told the magistrate that his maternal uncle Badruddoza directed him to make arrangements for exporting vegetables and tiles to the UK and he has no knowledge whether heroin or other illegitimate goods hidden inside these items were trafficked.

Earlier, Kazi Zafar Reza, proprietor of Rainbow Enterprise, and Abul Bashar, owner of Green Haven, had given confessional statements to the same magistrate on different dates that Badruddoza and his loyal officials smuggled heroin by hiding it in the shipments of vegetables and tiles.

Mainuddin also said they received payment from two buyers through the Motijheel branch of Pubali Bank Limited for exporting these shipments. The vegetables and tiles were exported by ship through Green Haven Enterprise and Raj Trading Agency, he added.

Mainuddin was appointed as a manager of BD Foods Limited in 1991.

Earlier, Mainuddin was arrested by the law enforcement agency on charge of smuggling 22.5kg heroin to the UK and was placed on remand for several times.

Two cases were filed with Motijheel and Sutrapur Police Stations against Badruddoza and others at different dates.

Badruddoza was arrested on May 14 after Nazmul Haider Bulbul, a former BD Foods official, and his cohort Mokhlesur Rahman Nayan, a cargo handler, confessed to a magistrate that they smuggled 22.5kg heroin to the UK at Badruddoza's directive.
