Illegal ghee factory unearthed in Chittagong
Tipped off, the court led by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Magistrate conducted the drive at a residential area of city's East Bakalia and found the factory -Taher Food Products- operating in two residential buildings within a distance of 500 yards. They used to market it using a brand of Denofa.
The factory owners and staffs, however, managed to flee the scene before the mobile team reached the spot.
The court seized several thousand packets full of date expired food items and raw materials including jelly, vinegar, pickle, sauce and turmeric powder.
CPA Magistrate Munir Chowdhury led the drive with the help of Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute (BSTI) officials and forces from Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).
As the anti-adulteration drives have recently been intensified in the port city, the factory owner used to produce the ghee at night, said the sources.
