Implementation of tripartite agreement demanded

Forum President Mosharrefa Mishu and General Secretary Komol Devnath Rana in a joint statement yesterday said such tripartite agreements were also signed earlier, but they were not implemented.

They said two tripartite agreements were signed earlier on May 24 and June 1. Besides, accords were also signed between workers and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) earlier, but none was implemented.

"If such thing is repeated this time, the government and owners will be responsible for its consequences," the statement said.

The forum leaders threatened to launch strong agitation if the workers' 11-point demand which were incorporated in the agreement, are not implemented within a week.

The demands include fixing Tk 3,000 as minimum wage, providing appointment letter to workers, paying double for overtime, eight-hour normal working time and establishing trade union rights.
