Indefinite students' strike at Buet from today
Students have called an indefinite strike at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) from today protesting the authority's decision of one-day vacation on the occasion of the Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.
They announced it at a press conference at the university yesterday.
The students demanded seven-day vacation, which the other educational institutions would enjoy.
The students said Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ali Mortuza misbehaved with them when they met him to discuss the matter. The VC said the university can not remain closed for seven days for only 20 per cent minority students, they added.
The students formed a human chain on the campus on September 24 and observed a hunger strike on September 25 to press home their demand.
