JCD factions stage showdown

Holding firearms, lethal weapons, hockey sticks and iron rod, both the JCD groups belonging to President Parvez Mallick and General Secretary Nazmul Hasan Ovi came face to face on the road in front of Kamal Uddin and Shahid Salam Barkat hall at 2:00pm. Both the groups hurled abusive words at each other and tried to lock in clash.

But Pro-VC Prof Enamul Huq Khan and proctorial body led by Proctor Prof Kamrul Ahsan took position in-between the advancing groups and brought the situation under control at 2:30pm.

President and General Secretary of JCD were also present during the situation.

The situation began when 5/6 cadres of general secretary group led by Imran, and Zakir slapped Saiful, a student of Archaeology, at the university transport at 1:30pm over taking possession of a seat there.

Saiful, a friend of Robiul Islam Robi, organising secretary of JU JCD, and also loyal to president group, was beaten as he refused to leave the seat for Ovi.

Declining to comment on the issue of firearms, Prof Mafruhi Sattar Titu, assistant proctor, said, 'A tense situation was created today but no untoward incident took place.'
