JMB terrorist Mufti Rouf remanded

After a year Mufti Moulana Abdur Rouf Farazi alias Abdur Rab was produced before the court with a prayer for remand and Magistrate Nirmal Kanti Chakma granted the 5-day remand.

He was allegedly involved in six bomb explosions in different parts of the district town on August 17, 2005.

Mymensingh police arrested Rouf from Bhaluka last month and later handed him over to Moulvibazar police.

Earlier, four people were arrested in connection with the bomb explosions.

Of the arrested Kamal Uddin and Manjurul Murad had confessed their involvement in the incident.

They also disclosed the name of Rouf as their leader who had been absconding since the explosions.

Kamal and Murad told the police that Rouf, an expert in bomb manufacturing and explosion, gave them training before the operation.

Rouf was the principal of Horihorbari Jibantala Madrasa under Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh.

He is the son of Abdul Hekim Farazi of Majumdarkandi village under Rajoir upazila in Madaripur district.

Mukles-Ur-Rahman, police super of Moulvibazar, said the investigation of the case is nearing completion.

After the interrogation of Rouf in police remand, the final charge sheet will be framed, he added.
