Speakers at a discussion yesterday said the threat issued by Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to confine women to their homes is a direct assault on women.

They also called upon all to resist such threat.

Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) organised the discussion titled 'Spirit of Liberation War and Rights of Women Workers.'

Women leaders of different political organisations and trade unions took part in the discussion at the WAPDA auditorium at Motijheel in the city.

To ensure rights of the women workers they have to come out of their houses upholding the glorified participation of women in the Liberation War, they said.

They stressed the need for an effective unity of the trade union organisations to resist the defeated forces of 1971.

BILS chairman and whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md Ashraf Hossain was the chief guest at the discussion with acting secretary general Md Zafrul Hasan in the chair.

Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SKOP) coordinator Dr Wajedul Islam Khan, BILS Assistant Executive Director Syed Sultanuddin Ahmed, Jatiya Sramik League Women Affairs Secretary Rawshan Jahan Sathi and women leaders of the national trade union federations spoke on the occasion.
