Journo leaders demand justice

The discussion was organised by Jessore Union of Journalists (JUJ) at Daratana Square.

Presided over by JUJ President Shajed Rahman the meeting was addressed among others by former BFUJ president Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, BFUJ President Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiya, DUJ President Altaf Mahmud, DUJ Secretary General Omar Farookh and BFUJ Treasurer Farajee Ajmal Hossain.

Iqbal Sobhan said Shamsur Rahman fought with his pen against corruption and never bowed down to anybody's red eyes.

He laid down his life to uphold people's interest, said Iqbal, adding, "We demand fair justice in his brutal murder case."

Monjurul Ahsan said when the government of a country fails to provide justice and punish the real killers, the country can be called a failed state.

"We are living in a society where there is no safety to life and property," he said.

Expressing his disappointment over Udichi bomb blast verdict acquitting all the accused Monjurul said, "We can assume what would be the verdict in Shamsur Rahman murder case."
