JP parliamentary board formed to choose candidates
The second largest opposition in the present parliament, with 14 MPs, is the first party to formally announce a board for selecting candidates.
Other members of the committee are: Begum Rawshan Ershad, MP, Kazi Zafar Ahmed, Major General (Retd) Shamsul Haq, MM Sattar, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar (member secretary) and Kazi Firoz Rashid.
The board will start exchanging views with aspirant party candidates from the first week of October.
In the first phase, the board will sit with the intending candidates from Panchagarah, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts.
The date of the first meeting will be announced later.
JP sources, however, said the first meeting will take place on October 10, the day the BNP-led 4-party coalition will complete its four years in power.
JP Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawladar said they started early preparations as party chairman had been kept in prison during or before the previous elections.
"People saw the regimes of BNP, Awami League and 4-party coalition. They also witnessed the activities of Ershad-government. So, we are expecting a good result in the coming general elections," he told BDNEWS.
Asked whether they smell an early general election, Hawladar said: We are taking preparations for a scheduled time polls. If the government goes for an early polls, it is up to the government, he added.
