'Keep spirit of liberation war alive'

"The spirit of the liberation war is still alive in the feelings, values and friendly relationship between the two peoples. The whole world is now conveyed about all the events of the liberation war and the cooperation and friendly relationship of the two countries during the war," she said.

Veena Sikri was addressing as guest of honour at a meeting on the occasion of the first death anniversary of Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora, commander of the Joint Command of the Allied Forces of War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.

Ekatturer Muktijoddah, freedom fighters of 1971, organised the meeting on the premises of Liberation War Museum in the city.

Veena Sikri said the friendship between the peoples of India and Bangladesh built up during the liberation war will have to be strengthened through extending the hands of cooperation in future.

"It is a memorable day not only for recalling Jagjit Singh Aurora, but also for recalling the history of the liberation war. May I be deeply committed to strengthening the friendly relations between the peoples of India and Bangladesh through extending our cooperation, beliefs, feelings and values to each other," she said.

Presided over by Air Vice-Marshal (Retd) AK Khandaker, deputy chief commander of the liberation war, the meeting was addressed by Kader Siddiqui Bir Uttam, Gen (Retd) KM Shafiullah, Maj (Retd) Matin and poet Habibulla Siraji.
