Khulna halts for an hour

The GKDAC demands include pipeline gas supply to Khulna, setting up of a deep seaport at Akram Point, modernisation of Mongla port, allocation of funds for reopening jute mills and Khulna Newsprint Mill, construction of Khanjahan Ali airport, a full fledged TV station and installation of a 210 megawatt power plant in Khulna.

Normal life came to standstill during the programme. All shops remained closed and production suspended in all mills and factories. All vehicles and transports went off the roads in Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira.

A rally was held during the programme at Picture Palace Cinema Hall Square with GKDAC leader Haider Gazi Salahuddin Runu in the chair.

Khulna city Awami League President Talukder Abdul Khaleque, BNP leader Nazrul Islam Manju, Khulna city CPB President Feroze Ahmed, Workers Party leader Hafizur Rahman Bhuiyan and Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Shaharuzzaman Martuza spoke at the rally.

Speakers at the rally warned the government of a tougher agitation if more funds are not allocated for development projects.
