Kidnapped Gazipur college student found dead in city

The victim was identified as Badrul Amin, an intermediate first year student of Gazipur Cantonment Board School and College.

The victim's relatives alleged negligence of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in rescuing Badrul.

Police recovered the decomposed body of the 18-year-old boy at around 1:30am and sent it to Mitford Hospital Morgue for autopsy.

The body was contained in a suitcase abandoned in the bus terminal. Hospital sources said he was strangled two to three days ago.

Family members said Badrul, son of a schoolteacher Kamrul Haq Bhuiyan, came out of his sister's Bilashpur residence in Gazipur town at around 8:30am on April 2 to go to his private tutor's house at Shibbari in the town.

They suspect that Badrul might have been kidnapped on his way to the private tutor's house.

After a day of abduction, a unanimous caller demanded Tk 20 lakh as ransom from Badrul's father Kamrul of Saldia village in Kaliganj upazila for his release.

Later, the kidnappers fixed it at Tk 5 lakh and asked the victim's relatives to send the money through Badrul's cousin Mosharraf Hossain at Kanchpur Bridge in Narayanganj by 10:00am on April 4.

Victim's relatives informed the matter to concerned Rab officials as the Kanchpur area is under the jurisdiction of Rab-10.

"I did mistake informing the matter to police and Rab. If I would give them Tk 5 lakh which I managed somehow, they might have not killed my son," Badrul's father said.

Relatives rushed to the hospital morgue watching television news about recovery of the body yesterday morning.

Commanding Officer of Rab-10 Lt Colonel Manikur Rahman, however, denied the allegation of negligence.
