Kuwait to recruit more Bangladeshis: Emir

"Kuwait is ready to accept more Bangladeshi experts and workers," press secretary to the acting president quoted the Emir as telling the acting president in response to a request by Sircar to recruit more Bangladeshis in his country.

The meeting was followed by a state luncheon hosted by the acting president in honour of the Emir.

The Bangabhaban spokesman, in a press briefing, said the acting president appreciated Kuwaiti decision to withdraw the ban on recruitment of Bangladeshi experts and workers in his country.

He also urged the Emir to take initiatives to reduce the trade gaps by investing in Bangladesh.

The spokesman said the two heads of state expressed satisfaction over the discussion covering bilateral, regional and international issues.

The Kuwaiti Emir, the spokesman said, expressed the hope that his visit would "certainly bring more opportunity to explore the unutilised potential for further strengthening the relations between the two countries."

Sheikh Sabah described his country as one of the longstanding development partners of Bangladesh and pledged to continue its economic assistance to Bangladesh.

The Kuwaiti Emir expressed the hope that the two countries would work together in the world forums.

According to the spokesman, the acting president praised the dynamic leadership of Emir in transforming Kuwait into a "moderate and forward-looking country with commendable achievements" in various sectors.

"Bangladesh considers Kuwait as one of its closest friends since it became independent in 1971," Sircar said.
