Lift operator kills self by jumping from Sectt bldg
An operator of a lift at the Secretariat allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the rooftop of a 20-storey building yesterday.
Abul Kashem, 30, an employee of Aziz and Company Ltd, who was assigned as lift operator at the Secretariat and had been working there for the last six years, died on the spot after he jumped from No. 6 building at about 10:15am and landed on the roof of a passage connecting two buildings.
Some of his colleagues said Kashem, with a monthly salary of Tk 2100, had been suffering from severe financial hardship, which might have led him to commit suicide.
