List of victims being made for paying compensation
A total of 355 names have been listed so far for paying compensations to them, official sources said yesterday.
The lists are being prepared in line with the memorandum of understanding signed between the government and the Pally Bidyut Unnayan Sangram Parishad, an organisation of the electricity subscribers.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. The committee comprises acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shibganj upazila Dewan Mohammad Abdus Samad, Chapainawabganj Civil Surgeon Md Golam Mortuza and Sangram Parishad Convener Golam Rabbani.
The committee members are now visiting Kansat, Abbas Bazar, Bagdurgapur, Guchchhagram, Bahlabari, Bianibazar and Gopalnagar areas in the upazila to make the lists of the victims.
Shibganj UNO said the names of some more injured might be added to the list.
Seventeen people were killed and scores others shot and hurt by the police during the violence in Kansat that started in January this year.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Institute of Human Rights and Rehabilitation Centre for Trauma Victims provided free treatment to the victims. About 350 injured were treated at a medical camp on Kansat High School ground.
