Main accused still at large

The accused Tushar went into hiding soon after the incident.

The other accused Ibrahim, who was arrested after the incident, was granted bail last Tuesday.

Family members of Kalandiar said that Ibrahim, who is now freely roaming around in the locality, may harm them.

"We feel insecure as we fear Ibrahim may harm us," said a member of the family.

The family members alleged that the police are not doing enough to arrest Tusher and that Ibrahim was granted bail due to weak investigation by the police.

Denying the allegations, the police told The Daily Star that they have been searching for Tushar in different places.

"We have nothing to do if the court grants bail to Ibrahim," said Investigation officer Mohammad Zahid.

Kalandiar, 54, committed suicide at his home on July 14 by hanging from the ceiling after an alleged pressure from Ibrahim.

It is learned that Kalandiar acted as a guarantor in a financial transaction when his friend Tushar took a loan of Tk 18 lakh from Ibrahim about eight months ago.

As Tushar failed to repay the money in due time, Ibrahim exerted enormous pressure on Kalandiar to get back the money, which prompted him to commit suicide, family sources said.
