Awami League President Sheikh Hasina yesterday called upon the people to make today's grand rally a success and intensify the current "oust-government" agitation.

"Stage demonstrations and sit-ins whenever you face obstacle so that it can cause deadlock throughout the country," said Hasina, who is leading a prolonged boycott of parliament and street movement to press for resignation of the government and fresh polls.

Hasina, also Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, made the call during a meeting with Swadhianata Chikitsak Parishad.

Holy Family unit of the Parishad, led by its president Moniruzzaman Bhuiyan and GS Ijaj Ahmed Hiru, called on Hasina at her Sudha Sadhan residence.

The opposition leader said the government is staging a "pre-planned drama" in the name of transport strike so that the AL activists could not join the grand rally in Dhaka.

Blaming the government for hindering the holding of the AL-led 14-party combine's grand rally, Hasina said, "The government seems to be afraid of the popularity of Awami League."
