Mass upsurge a must to end govt's misrule: CPB

Addressing a rally at Muktangon in the city, they said the country is now in deep crisis due to discontentment in all sectors including garments and education.

The CPB leaders called for reducing the prices of daily essentials, and ensuring adequate supply of gas, water and electricity.

CPB President Monjurul Ahsan Khan said 35 years have passed since the country's independence, but there is no change in poor people's fate as all the successive governments maintained the interest of rich people.

The fate of poor people will not change unless the policies are formulated in favour of them, he added.

Referring to parliament election, the CPB chief observed that mere reforms in caretaker government and Election Commission (EC) is not enough, misuse of black money and muscle power will have to be stopped for holding free and fair election.

He said the government did not meet the demands of the teachers forcing them to take to the streets.

He demanded immediate implementation of the agreement signed between the government, garment owners and workers to protect the garment industries in the country.

CPB acting general secretary Syed Jafar Ahmed said price hike of essentials, terrorism and corruption have made the people's life miserable pushing the country into the verge of destruction.

He said free and fair election would not be possible unless the chief election commissioner is removed.

CPB presidium members and central committee leaders also spoke on the occasion.
