Missing girl found dead in city ditch
Police recovered the body of Sharmin Akhter from inside a sack floating in the ditch adjacent to her house at Pallabi.
The sack was tied with scarf and there were three bricks inside it, said police sources.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. On Friday, Sharmin, daughter of a poor day labourer, was left alone at home as her parents went out to work in the morning.
On returning home around 12:00 noon, her mother found her only daughter missing. The parents searched everywhere for her in vain.
On Sunday morning, one of the neighbours seeing a sack floating in the ditch informed them.
Sharmin's father Abul Kalam went to the ditch and found his daughter's body inside the sack.
While talking to The Daily Star, the family members said Sharmin was wearing a pair of gold earrings and a silver chain when she went missing but these were not found with the body.
"The criminals must have killed my daughter to take the gold and silver valuables," told her father.
"The criminals killed her so that no clues are left behind," said the investigation officer.
The autopsy report of Dhaka Medical College morgue said she was strangled to death.
The victim's father filed a murder case in this connection.
