Mobile courts fine shops, factories Tk 13.6 lakh

Thirty mobile courts yesterday fined different factories and shops in the city over Tk 13.58 lakh for producing unauthorised products and selling rotten and stale food items.

During the on-going drive against food adulteration, the mobile courts also sent nine people to jail and filed 276 cases against the owners of shops and factories, said a press release .

A mobile court led by Magistrate Fazlul Haque fined Tahid Alam, owner of Balaka Vermicelli Factory at Shyampur, Tk 1.50 lakh for selling vermicelli under open sky. The court also fined Azizia Sweet Shop Tk one lakh for selling rotten and adulterated sweets.

The court fined Manik and Farid Tk two lakh as they were engaged in refining the burnt Mobil oil for use in bakery products and also filed cases against the factory owner for producing harmful chemicals used in ripening fruits.

The court also fined a trader, Badsha, Tk 50,000 and issued warning against Uzzal for refining burnt Mobile oil.

A fake juice factory was unearthed at Purba Basabo in Sabujbagh by a mobile court led by Magistrate Kaiyum Sarkar. Matiar Rahman, owner of the factory, was fined Tk 70,000.

Bikrampur Sweet and Food at Mirpur was fined Tk 65,000 by a mobile court led by Magistrate AKM Didarul Islam.

Another mobile court led by Magistrate Nazmul Ahsan fined Ahmed Food Product Ltd. at Pallabi Tk 50,000 for not sticking the BSTI labels to the cover of its products.

Magistrate Zakir Hossain of another mobile court sentenced seven people to ten days' imprisonment for their involvement in anti-social activities at Gulshan.

Another mobile court led by Magistrate Karamat Ali sentenced two bus drivers to seven days' imprisonment for reckless driving at Khilgaon.
