Momtaz Jasimuddin passes away

Begum Momtaz Jasimuddin, wife of poet Jasimuddin, died of a cardiac arrest at a private hospital in the capital yesterday at the age of 84.

She left behind three sons, Dr Jamal Anwar, Firoz Anwar and Khurshid Anwar, two daughters, Hasna Moudud and Asma Elahi, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn her death.

Family sources said the body of Begum Momtaz Jasimuddin will be brought to Faridpur today and she will be buried beside the grave of her husband at the family graveyard in Govindapur village under Sadar upazila.

A pall of gloom descended on the district when the people heard the news of death of the wife of poet Jasimuddin. Hundreds of people thronged the poet's village home.

The body of Momtaz Jasimuddin was taken from the hospital to the house of her son-in-law, Law Minister Moudud Ahmed.

BNP Standing Committee member KM Obaidur Rahman MP, general secretary of Jasim Foundation of Faridpur Mafiz Imam Milon and former Upazila chairman Imran Hossain Chowdhury have expressed deep shock at the death of Begum Momtaz Jasimuddin and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.

Ifte Khairul Bashar
Brigadier Ifte Khairul Bashar, former joint secretary to the ministry of defence, passed away on Friday evening at the Combined Military Hospital in the city, says a press release.

He was younger brother of Air Vice Martial M K Bashar.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held at DOHS Mosque after Asr prayers tomorrow.

Jisan Ahmed
Jisan Ahmed (Zubayer), son of Dr Md Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan, passed away on January 5, says a press release.

He was a BBA student at the East West University.

He was selected as a cadet of army commission rank by Inter Selection Services Board (ISSB). He lost his consciousness during the operation of Deviated Nasal Septum (DNS) and died. Dr Lieutenant Colonel Shafiul Alam, Department of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) conducted the operation.

His family, friends, former students of Commerce College and students of East West University expressed condolence at his death and prayed for peace and salvation of his departed soul.

Nurul Islam
Md Nurul Islam, an employee of BATA Shoe Company, passed away due to cardiac arrest at the National Cardiac Institute in the city on Thursday at the age of 46 years, says a press release.

He left behind his wife, a son and two daughters.

His qulkhwani will be held today at his house in Khilkhet in the city.
