Move to shift Ramna Kali Mandir slated

At a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity auditorium, they demanded reconstruction of the mandir and Anandamayee Ashram at Ramna.

Biresh Chandra Saha, general secretary of the committee, said according to Hindu religion properties dedicated to a deity cannot be shifted or sold to anybody.

So, no question of shifting the mandir and ashram arises, he added.

C R Dutta, sector commander of the liberation war, said earlier the city mayor, housing and public works minister and committee president made commitment to reconstruct the mandir and ashram on the original land at government expenditure.

But now the government seems doing otherwise and planning to reconstruct the mandir and ashram on a new place, he added.

The speakers vowed to resist the conspiracy of any quarters to do business with the properties of deity.

They said they will submit a memorandum to the prime minister and deputy commissioner on June 20, and form a human chain at Muktangon at 4:30pm on June 29 to press home their demand.

Committee President Chittaranjan Sarkar, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Journalist Swapan Kumar Saha and Basudev Dhar were present at the conference.
