'Name corner at National Museum after poet Shamsur Rahman'

National Professor Kabir Chowdhury presided over the programme organised by Sammilita Sangskritik Jote.

The programme started with observing one-minute silence to show respect to the departed soul.

Speaking on the occasion Jote President Nasir Uddin Yusuf said the poet left no issue untouched in his poems.

Veteran writer Syed Shamsul Huq termed Shamsur Rahman the 'poet of independence'.

Atiqul Haque Chowdhury, a noted dramatist, demanded release of commemorative stamp marking the birth or death anniversary of the poet.

He also demanded naming of a corner at the National Museum after the name of Shamsur Rahman to display his works and used things.

Author Selina Hossain, drama personality Ataur Rahman, poet Nirmalendu Gun, Prof Anisuzzaman and lawmaker Asaduzzaman Noor also addressed the function.

On behalf of the Jote, Ramendu Majumdar, a cultural personality, read out a citation showing deep respect for the poet.

A recorded recitation by the poet from his own poem 'Kokhono Amar Ma Ke' (Ever to My Mother) was played on the occasion.
