Nine killed, 15 injured in road accidents
Our correspondent in Narayanganj reports: A collision between two passenger buses on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Langalbandh in Bandar upazila left five people dead and 11 others injured.
The accident took place at around 8:30am when a Dhaka-bound bus coming from Roypura rammed another Dhaka-bound bus from Daudkandi, which stopped at Langalbandh bus stand to take passengers, police said.
Four people died on the spot and another succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka. Among them, three are garment workers.
The dead were identified as Amir Hossain, Nure Alam, Shibu of Langalbandh area and Zaman, 18, of Char Islampur area. The identity of the other victim could not be known.
Police arrested the driver of the bus, which hit the other bus, and also seized the bus.
The Textile Garments Workers' Federation demanded that the owner of the bus pay compensation to the families of the garments workers killed in the accident.
Our correspondent in Tangail adds: Four people were killed and four others seriously injured when a Dhaka-bound rice-laden truck from Naogaon crashed into a road island and skidded off the road at Dherua level crossing in Mirzapur early yesterday.
The accident took place on Dhaka-Tangail highway at around 2:00am. Four people died on the spot. One of them was identified as Ekramul Haque, 32, son of Imer Ali of Gurer Para village under Shaghata upazila of Gaibandha district. The identity of three others could not be known.
The injured were admitted to the Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital.
The bodies were sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy.
