Non-govt teachers to get salary before Eid
This is among a number of major decisions announced by the Education Ministry yesterday conceding to demands of the teachers and employees of non-government educational institutions.
Education Minister Dr Osman Farruk announced the decision in a meeting with the representatives of Jatiya Shikkhak Samity Oikya Jote (JSSO) held at the ministry.
Under one decision, a new department for secondary education will be constituted through bifurcation of the Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
The Education Minister told the teachers that regional office of the National University (NU) would be set up in every divisional city to facilitate smooth official function of the administration.
"All rational demands of the teacher community will be fulfilled in phases," he said.
Non-government teachers are now getting partial festival bonus, but the government is sincere in giving them full festival bonus from Eid-ul-Azha, he told the JSSO leaders.
Dr Farruk informed them that the government will soon announce the service rule, at the final stage, for the teachers and employees of non-government educational institution.
A press release of the JSSO said they put forward a 34-point demand to the Education Minister during the meeting. "The Education Minister assured us of meeting our main demandnationalization of our jobs," it said.
Terming the demand very logical for maintaining peaceful atmosphere at the educational institutions, Dr Farruk assured the teachers of consulting it with the Prime Minister and the Finance and Planning Minister.
A five-member liaison committee headed by JSSO presidium member Principal Selim Bhuiyan was formed in the meeting to approach with different problems and demands to the ministry officials.
Secretary General of Bangladesh College Shikkhak Samity Chowdhury Mugisuddin Mahmud, Secretary General of Bangladesh Civil Service Education Association Matiur Rahman Gazzali, President of Bangladesh Shikkhak Samity Kazi Abdur Razzak and ministry high officials were present at the meeting.
