Non-govt teachers to lay siege to Shikkha Bhaban on Dec 19

The leaders of National Front of Teachers and Employees (NFTE) yesterday announced the decision at a press conference demanding cancellation of circular for depositing tuition fees to the government exchequer and reinstatement of the teachers who were sacked from their jobs on political consideration during the last five years.

They said they will also form human chains carrying black flags across the country on December 12 and organise representatives' meeting at divisions from December 10 to 24to realise eight-point demand.

The leaders at the National Press Club in the city said they will hold international convention if their demands are not met by November 11.

"We have faced repression during all governments but the immediate past BNP-Jamaat government has broken all previous records on repression," said Prof Quazi Farruque, co-ordinator and convenor of NFTE.

He said around 2000 teachers were sacked on political consideration, 8,000 cases filed, around 16,000 teachers deprived of two-year time scale, 18,000 deprived of eight-year time scale, 70,000 teachers deprived of MPO (Monthly Pay Order) and the salary of 3182 teachers were not paid during the last five year BNP-Jamaat government.

He said the teachers will not conduct the election as presiding and polling officers if politically nominated persons are not removed from the governing and managing committees.
