North South Property Development Limited (NSPDL), a real-estate firm, yesterday urged the government to resume the sale of forms of the proposed Bhasantek Rehabilitation Project among the interested people within this month.

Otherwise, the firm will stop their work to implement the project, threatened Md Abdur Rahim, chairman and managing director of NSPDL, the authorised construction company of the project.

At a press conference at the National Press Club in the city, he alleged that the project is hanging up due to complexity of the land ministry.

The chairman said his firm has so far invested around Tk 50 crore for the development work of the project under an agreement signed with the government in September 29, 2003.

As per the agreement, the sale of application forms among the interested people began in August 2004, but the ministry stopped the sale after a few days violating the agreement, he added.

Abdur Rahim said his firm would finally close up the implementation work of the project if the complexity is not removed within a month.

Under the project, 215 square feet flat would be provided to slum dwellers at a cost of Tk 2 lakh per flat, while 395 square feet flat would be for low-income people mainly freedom fighters, women garment workers, third and fourth grade government staff at a cost of Tk 3.90 lakh per flat.

Project Director Sirajul Islam, Chief Engineer Habib Mostafa, Public Relations Officer Ismail Hossain were present at the press conference.
