One gets 20 yrs' RI for selling wife to brothel
Judge Kaniz Akhter Nasrina Khanam of the Fourth Special Tribunal for Prevention on Women and Children Repression handed down the sentence in presence of the convicts Rup Miah and Babul Yusuf.
After cross-examination of 14 prosecution witnesses, the court delivered the verdict for selling the victim Rina Akhter.
According to prosecution, Rup Miah and his brother-in-law (husband of Rup's sister) Babul Yusuf in collusion with others sold the victim to a brothel on May 3 last year. Later, victim's brother Anisur Rahman came to know it from people and informed it to Khilgaon Police Station. Police, with the help of locals, arrested the two the same day.
The arrestees confessed to their involvement but the victim was not rescued yet.
Later, a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act was filed against them in this connection.
Special Public Prosecutor Mohammad Akhteruzzaman appeared for the state while Advocate Abul Kalam Azad defended the accused.
