One killed, 9 injured in road accidents

Our Correspondent from Mymensingh reports: A bus driver was killed and two others were injured in a road accident at Dhigarkanda on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway under Sadar upazila yesterday.

The accident took place when a bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a motor-cycle coming from the opposite direction killing Shaheed, 38, driver of Nirapad Paribahan on the spot and injuring Rokon, 35, and Mahbub, 36.

The injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

The body was sent to MMCH morgue for autopsy.

Our Correspondent from Jessore reports: Four police constables of Benapole immigration were injured in road accident yesterday at Chanchra on the outskirts of Jessore town.

The injured policemen are Helaluddin, Alamgir Hossain, Abdus Samad and Khairul Islam.

Police sources said the constables were coming to Jessore by a private car to discharge hartal duty.

A Benapole-bound bus from the opposite direction collided with the car when it reached Charchra injuring the four policemen. They were rushed to Jessore General Hospital. Of them, condition of Helaluddin and Alamgir was stated to be critical.

Our correspondent from Sirajganj adds: At least three people, including The Daily Star Sirajganj correspondent, were injured in a road accident at Hati-Kumrul in Dhaka-Bogra highway in Sirajganj district yesterday afternoon.

The accident occurred at around 4:30pm when a pick-up van hit the motorbike of G Mostafa, The Daily Star correspondent, from behind and as a result, three people were injured.

Of the injured, Mostafa and Abdus Salam, a college teacher, were admitted to a clinic in the district town.
