One killed in bridge collapse in Gaibandha
One person was killed and 25 people, including a LGED engineer, were injured, when an underconstruction bridge on Bonarpara-Nakaihat road in Saghata upazila collapsed on Thursday.
Babu Mia, 40, died on the spot. He hailed from Kuptola village in Gaibandha Sadar upazila.
LGED engineer Mostafizur Rahman and the other injured people were taken to different hospitals.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. After the incident, agitated people barricaded the road and kept LGED engineers and the contractor confined for several hours. Police later rescued them.
Sources claimed that the bridge collapsed due to the use of substandard construction materials.
LGED Executive Engineer in Gaibandha Aminul Huq, however, refuted the allegation and said it was an accident.
