Opposition flouts HC ban to create anarchy: Babar

"They (opposition) attempted to create anarchy and disrupted the people's day-to-day activities by creating obstacles to traffic movement in the name of the siege programme," Babar told the House in a statement.

He said that the opposition did not even show respect to the country's apex court.

"The High Court imposed a ban on the programme for sake of the people, but they enforced the siege ignoring the order," the state minister added.

Referring to the government measures during the siege programme, Babar said that it is the constitutional duty of the government to protect the lives and properties of the people. "The government tried to do so and also tried to follow the court's order to ensure people's security," he said.

The state minister also said that since the House is in session, the opposition could have discussed the issues in parliament, instead of resorting to the siege programme.

Earlier, ruling BNP lawmaker Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal took floor on a point of order and said the 14-party opposition combine damaged properties worth crores of taka in the name of siege programme.

He also alleged that the opposition tarnished the image of the court by defying its ban on the siege programme.
