Opposition, not govt, to face mass upsurge

"There will be no mass upsurge against us…It'll be against them (opposition). People have already got the proof of their conspiracies," he told a rally at Nawabganj in the city organised by Hazaribagh thana BNP.

Bhuiyan, also the LGRD minister, said people know that they (opposition) talk tall talks when they are in opposition, but unleash a reign of terror when in power.

Accusing Awami League of doing nothing for the people in the last five years, he said they waged a movement to pull down the government, but the government did not fall, rather their movement fell flat.

He accused AL of trying to destroy judiciary, parliament, presidency and the Election Commission.

He also blasted the opposition for trying to tarnish image of the country abroad by providing false information against communal harmony, human rights and law and order situation.

On terrorism, he said, "Before you talk about terrorism, expel terrorists from your own party. They haven't yet expelled a single terrorist from their party."

The BNP secretary general said his party would hand over power to a caretaker government within a few days.

Urging the party men for working for whoever is nominated by the party, he hoped that the 4-party alliance, led by Khaleda Zia, would win the next general election by a huge margin and keep up the pace of development.

On the price hike, the LGRD Minister admitted that the prices of some commodities have gone up due to high price of fuel on the international market and lack of production. "But we're trying to keep the essential commodities within the buying capacity of the commoners."

"If the prices do not come down, the government would arrange open market sale of essentials soon," he added.

Presided over by Hazaribagh thana BNP President Ramjan Ali Hero, the rally was also addressed by Dhaka City BNP General Secretary Abdus Salam, Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu and JCD General Secretary Sahfiul Bari Babu.
