'Organised gang active in Motalib Plaza'

There are 110 mobile phone shops in the market.

They told this correspondent that the incidents of mugging took place at Dhaka University, Kataban, Paribagh, Elephant Road, Central Road, Bhuter Goli and Doel Chattar areas.

Muggers looted 130 mobile sets worth around Tk 6.5 lakh at Bhuter Goli from an employee of Celltone Mobile Shop of Motalib Plaza last week, they said.

A gang of muggers shot an employee of Nahiyan Mobile Zone of Motalib Plaza and looted Tk 2.7 lakh from him at Central Road on Tuesday.

The muggers also looted mobile sets worth Tk 5 lakh of Humayan Electronics of the market in the TSC area of Dhaka University 20 days ago.

Besides, muggers snatched mobile sets worth Tk 2.5 lakh from an employee of HP Mobile at Paribagh around 15 days ago, they said.

The mobile traders suspect an organised gang of muggers is active in the market. The businessmen said they have already informed Ramna, Dhanmandi and New Market police of the incidents without any result.

When contacted, Ramna police said they have not received any formal complaint of mugging of mobile sets, so they can not do anything about it.
