Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) yesterday protested an army headquarters' statement published in some national dailies on Wednesday.

The statement, issued by Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) department, described as unjustified and baseless the PCJSS's allegation that the arrest of its four activists including Sushil Kumar Chakma was an army-staged drama.

According to ISPR, the army arrested four armed terrorists to maintain law and order in the region and it has no extra firearms or ammunitions to stage a drama in arresting anybody.

The PCJSS, in a press release said, the arrest of its activists by staging drama is nothing new. The abduction of Kalpana Chakma allegedly by the army personnel and subsequent announcement of a reward of Tk 50 thousand was an example of such drama, it added.

The locals watched the assault of Sushil and others by the army and they did not see any arms with them, the press release said, adding that Panchhari Zone Commander Moin Chowdhury and Assistant Zone Commander Major Nasim have been harassing PCJSS members from the very beginning.

The army statement is purely motivated and designed to suppress the fact, it added.
