Pepsodent-Dristy Debate Festival ends in Ctg

The two-day Pepsodent-Dristy Debate Festival ended in Chittagong yesterday amid great festivity.

Dristy, a cultural forum, organised the festival under the auspices of Unilever Bangladesh at the local Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

On the concluding day, the final round of Imperial-Dristy Debate Genius 2005 was held selecting three best debaters of the year.

Rafsan Rabbi, a class eight student of Chittagong Govt High School, clinched the champion's title while Jaya Dutta, a student of Krishna Kumary School, and Sadman Saika of Silver Bell's School became runners up jointly.

Eighty students from different schools participated in the competition.

Abul Momen, resident editor of the Prothom Alo, gave away the prizes among the winners.

Shahid Mostafa Mojahid, brand manager of Unilever Bangladesh, was present on the occasion.

The organisers also awarded three persons and an institute for their contribution to boosting debate competition.

Of the awardees, Abul Momen got lifetime achievement award for his support in organising different debate competitions in last twenty years.

Al Mamun, best national debater of the year 1994-95, and Jahanara Begum, headmistress of Nasirabad Girl's High School, received the Debate of Honour award.

The institute that received the Debate of Honour award was Silver Bell's School.

Different friendly debates like Local debate, Planchat debate, Baroary debate, Student- teacher debate and Star debate were also held with the spontaneous participation of the debaters on the day.

Shila Momen, principal of Fulki, an educational and cultural institute, former national debaters Shamim Al Amin, Bulbul Hasan, Mili Chowdhury, Al Mamun, Shamim Shahed and Abdun Noor Tusher took part in different friendly debates and events at the closing ceremony.
