Petition for stay of DNA test of ex-DIG, wife rejected

Metropolitan Magistrate Jagannath Das Khokan issued the order following a petition filed by defence lawyers of the couple seeking stay of the earlier order by the same court.

Earlier on June 8, the same court ordered the director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and the officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station to make arrangement for conducting the DNA test of the former DIG Anisur Rahman, his wife and 14 children.

The court passed the order following a petition filed by Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Rights (BSEHR).

In the yesterday's petition, defence lawyers of DIG and his wife Anwara Rahman mentioned that the earlier order passed by the same court was not legal. Moreover, there is no conflict between the couple and their children. So, they are not agreed to face the DNA test as nobody has claimed the guardianship of the children, the petition said.

Sub-inspector Mojammel Huq Mamun had earlier appealed to the court to probe the matter in response to a GD filed by Advocate Alena Khan, executive director of BSEHR on June 2.

When reached, the couple's lawyer Kazi M Sajwar Hossain told The Daily Star that they would file an appeal with the higher court against the rejection of the lower court.
