PM for high-level visits to deepen ties with Russia

In this regard, she renewed her invitation to President Vladimir Putin to visit Bangladesh and hoped he would come to Dhaka at a convenient time.

She was talking to the outgoing Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Olge S Malginov, when he made a farewell call on the PM at her office.

The envoy apprised her that President Putin has accepted the invitation and the visit would take place at a mutually convenient time.

Malginov said support and cooperation of his country as the Soviet Union to Bangladesh since its independence in 1971 has continued and will continue.

"Soon there will be celebration in Moscow to mark the completion of 35 years of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Russia which would focus excellent relations, friendship, cultural and historical relationship between the two countries,"said the envoy.

Khaleda said there would also be anniversary celebrations in Dhaka

During the meeting, cooperation in Energy sector, particularly in gas sector, was discussed.

The PM sought Russian cooperation in development of the power sector, which is needed for meeting a growing demand for electricity.

The envoy said Russia and Bangladesh work closely in various regional and international forums, particularly the United Nations.

He laid importance on Saarc for peace, development and progress in this region and hoped the South Asian forum will reach its set goal under the dynamic leadership of current Saarc Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The Ambassador appreciated Bangladesh as a vibrant and functioning democracy.

Khaleda conveyed greetings to Russian President through the outgoing Ambassador who would join his country's Foreign Ministry.

The Ambassador thanked the PM for her government's cooperation during the discharge of his duties here.
