PM seeks Norwegian support for dev of energy, power sector

She made the request when outgoing Norwegian Ambassador Aud Lise Norheim paid a farewell call on the prime minister at her office.

Norway is now involved in many projects, particularly in development of telecommunications and primary education of Bangladesh, according to an official.

Appreciating the envoy's role in deepening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Khaleda hoped that the outgoing Ambassador would keep up her efforts for increased cooperation between the two countries during her new assignment as chief of

International Cooperation wing in the Foreign Ministry of Norway.

Lise said Bangladesh is on top of the Norwegian's cooperation list in Asia region and hoped that her country's support would increase further in the days ahead.

She appreciated Bangladesh's success in education, particularly primary and women education, under the personal initiatives of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

The envoy also praised Bangladesh's success in checking child trafficking and said Norway is already involved in Bangladesh's initiatives of appointing a Child Ombudsman and cooperation in this regard would continue.

Lise appreciated Bangladesh people as peace-loving, hardworking and hospitable, and for their love for democracy.

Norwegian cooperation for the development of the Chittagong Hill Tracts also came up for discussion.
