Policeman misbehaves with player

The police said SI Sher Alam stopped sportsman Sergeant Ramesh Chandra Mondal as he did not give way to a microbus carrying a police team at Mirpur Section-6 although its driver honked at him repeatedly at around 7:00pm.

"The on-duty sub-inspector asked his name, but Ramesh, who was wearing a vest and half-pant, refused to give his identity," said a police official, preferring anonymity. Rather, Ramesh told the sub-inspector that it is not necessary to know his name or identity, he added.

Ramesh also tried to make a phone call with his mobile phone but the sub-inspector took it away and attempted to search the bag Ramesh was carrying.

Ramesh then pushed the sub-inspector aside and ran to the Mirpur stadium where his fellow players were practising. Later, around 30 players rushed to the spot and demanded punishment to the sub-inspector.

Sergeant Ramesh lodged a general diary with Mirpur Police Station, mentioning that the sub-inspector misbehaved with him and snatched his mobile phone. The sub-inspector also grabbed him by his vest and branded him as an extortionist, he added.
