Expressing deep concern over the anarchy and killings in the country, 29 former officers of armed forces yesterday urged the President for immediate appointment of chief adviser to the caretaker government according to the constitution as Justice KM Hasan declined to accept the post.

The nation is going through a serious crisis... there is no security to life and property, they said in a statement adding that clashes among the supporters of different political parties have created anarchy across the country.

"Political and economic crisis will deepen and the independence, sovereignty and democracy of the country will be threatened if this situation continues," said the statement signed by Col (Retd) Faruk Khan.

The statement also urged the armed forces, BDR, police, Ansar and civil administration to play a neutral role to ensure the security and interest of the nation.
