Pro-Huda lawyers' meet foiled

The general meeting of Dhaka Bar Association (DBA) unit lenient to Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum faction led by Communications Minister Nazmul Huda and advocate Joynul Abedin could not be held yesterday due to the opposition of the forum's another faction led by advocate TH Khan and barrister Md Aminul Haque.

In the meeting was scheduled to be held at DBA auditorium at 2:00pm, Nazmul Huda was the chief guest while State Minister for Law Muhammad Shahjahan Omar, BNP's Law Affairs Secretary advocate Joynul Abedin and BRTC Chairman advocate Taimur Alam Khondaker were the special guests.

However, none of them, except Taimur Alam came to attend the GM.

Both the groups took position from yesterday morning on and around the association premises.

A tense situation was created as the TH Khan-Aminul group from outside the DBA gate and the other group from inside the gate chanted provocative slogans.

Additional police forces were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

At one stage, DBA General Secretary Mohammad Khorshed Alam announced postponement of the GM, saying that the prime minister herself will take up the matter and solve the problem after her returning home.

Following the postponement of the GM, the other group withdrew their blockade from the gate.

Advocates Mohammad Lutfe Alam, Mohshin Miah, Mohammad Borhan Uddin, Abdul Latif Talukder and Mohammad Ali of Huda-Joynul group spoke at their meeting.

Speakers of TH Khan-Aminul group were advocates Abdullah Mahmud Hassan, Sanaullah Miah, Arfan Uddin khan and Masud Ahmed Talukder.
