Pro-Jamaat teachers' statement on Prof Hasan condemned

Earlier on Monday pro-Jamaat teachers of Rajshahi University in a statement termed Prof Hasan an 'enemy of Islam' and demanded that he should apologise to the nation for his 'anti-religious' comment.

The progressive teachers also blamed the pro-Jamaat teachers who are allegedly causing communal unrest threatening the eminent writer.

In the statement they also expressed grave concern as Islami Chhatra Shibir under the banner of 'Sachetan Chhatra Samaj' is trying to create anarchy on the campus.

They observed that the threat on Prof Hasan is a menace to free thinking.

The progressive teachers demanded immediate punishment to the people responsible and security to Prof Hasan.

The signatories were Society Convener Prof Abdus Sobhan, former RU VC Saidur Rahman Khan, Julfiquar Matin, Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Prof Moloy Kumar and Ananda Kumar Saha.

The pro-Jamaat teachers in a statement said that without studying Islam, Prof Hasan made a wrong comment and became an enemy to the religion.

The signatories were Prof AKM Yakub Ali, Abdus Salam Madani, Prof Belal Hossain and Prof Nazrul Islam.
