Prof Yunus receives 'Freedom from Want Award'

Prof Yunus was given the award in recognition of his extraordinary success in setting up the Grameen Bank and popularising micro-credit globally, according to a message received here.

Princess Maxima, wife of the Crown Prince of the Netherlands, handed over the award to Prof Yunus at a function on Saturday.

This award is presented each year to men and women whose achievements demonstrate a commitment to those principles, which President Roosevelt proclaimed in his historic speech to US Congress in January 1941.
