Programmes on 25th death anniversary of Zia

Commemorating the demise of Zia, also the founder of BNP, the programmes begin on May 29 with a discussion meeting on his eventful life at Dhaka City Natya-mancha at 4:00pm.

Programmes of the anniversary day include lowering party flag half-mast and hoisting black flag, khatme Quran at Zia Mazar and party central office.

On the day, BNP chairperson and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, along with her party and front organisations' leaders, will visit Zia's Mazar to offer prayer and place floral wreathes.

The prime minister will distribute foods among the poor under a three-day destitute-feeding from May 30 at different places in the city.

The other programmes include photo exhibition and the screening of documentary on Zia's life, arranged by Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JSSS) on June 2, a discussion meeting on 'Juboker Zia' by Juba Dal on June 4, discussion on 'Agriculture and role of Ziaur Rahman in peasant welfare' by Krishok Dal on June 5, and discussion meeting on 'Declaration of Independence and Contribution of Ziaur Rahman to Liberation War' on June 8.

Besides, BNP has taken a three-day programme at divisional level and two-day programme at district level from May 30 to observe the death anniversary.

BNP secretary general and LGRD Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan urged party leaders, activists, supporters and sympathizers "to make the programmes a success".
