Property worth Tk 20 lakh gutted in Ctg

Fire service sources said a fire, originated from oven, broke out from a house of West Shakpura under Boalkhali upazila at around 1:00am that reduced 11 tin-shed houses to ashes.

One fire fighter unit from some 30 kilometres off Patiya fire station rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire after three and half hours of effort, they said.

The witnesses alleged that the locals had managed to extinguish around 75 per cent of the fire before the belated arrival of the lone fire-fighting unit.

The loss of the fire was estimated at Tk 17 lakh, said the sources.

Another incident of fire occurred at an engine room of an abandoned cargo vessel named MV Saitang of Kamal Uddin at Rahman Ship Breaking Yard at Sitakunda upazila at around 12:25am.

The fire reportedly originated from gas cutter reduced the furniture and cables inside the vessel to ashes.

One fire fighter unit from Kumira Fire Station rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire after one and half hours.

The loss was estimated at Tk 3 lakh, said the fire service source.
