Karmojibi Nari (KN), an organisation working to promote women's rights, formed a human chain in the city yesterday protesting the teasing by local hooligans that forced Bijlee Akhter Swapna to commit suicide.

They also held a rally at Muktangan, with KN President Shirin Akhter in the chair.

Speaking at the rally, they demanded immediate trial of and exemplary punishment to the criminals involved.

Shirin Akhter said the suicide of Swapna has again proved that torture and repression of women is going on unabatedly.

She criticised the police for their inaction in this regard and called on women to raise their voice and fight against such repression.

Executive Director of KN Rokeya Rafiq Baby, Mahmuda Iman and Arefa Akhter Anu also spoke.

Thirteen-year-old Swapna took her life by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house at Pallabi on July 20 failing to endure teasing by local miscreants.
