Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Zaber al-Sabah said the existing bilateral relations between his country and Bangladesh will be consolidated further in future.

The Kuwaiti PM said this when Prime Minister Khaleda Zia conveyed condolences to him yesterday on her behalf and on behalf of Bangladeshi people following the death of Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmed al-Sabah.

The emir died at Emiri Dewan in Bayen Palace in Kuwait City on Sunday at the age of 79.

Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan and Bangladesh Ambassador to Kuwait Nazrul Islam Khan accompanied the Bangladeshi prime minister during the meeting. Members of the royal family and senior members of the Kuwaiti cabinet were also present there.

Khaleda described the late emir as a great leader of Kuwait as well as the Muslim Ummah. She hoped the bilateral relations between the two brotherly Muslim countries will strengthen in the future.

Echoing the same sentiment, the Kuwaiti PM said the existing relations between Bangladesh and Kuwait will be geared up with increased cooperation in new areas.

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah told Khaleda that his country is keen to send a high level delegation to Bangladesh.
