Report on Electricity (Amend) Bill placed in JS
A report of the parliamentary standing committee on a bill titled "The Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2005" was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday.
Mohammad Shahidul Islam, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of power, energy and mineral resources, placed the bill.
The bill has proposed that a person shall be deemed to have dishonestly abstracted consumed or used energy if he is found to connection of any meter on measuring apparatus.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. It has also proposed enhancement of penalty of both imprisonment and fine for such offences. When passed, the bill will replace the Electricity Act, 1910.
State Minister for Electricity Iqbal Hasan Mahmud piloted the bill in the Jatiya Sangsad on November 20.
