Rise in crime worries Khulna politicians

The General Secretary of Khulna district Awami League Mostafa Rashidi Shuja told The Daily Star yesterday that criminals have again become active and now moving in the guises in the society. Besides, extremists are regrouping in city, he said.

Prices of essentials have already gone beyond common people's purchasing capacity, Shuja said. City AL General Secretary Mizanur Rahman, former city BNP general secretary Nazrul Islam Manju, city CPB President Advocate Feroze Ahmed and Jatiya Party (Ershad) leader Abul Hossain also expressed concern at the deteriorating law and order situation.

They said politics in Khulna has become too difficult and highly risky in the wake of sudden rise in bomb attacks, robberies and burglaries.

KMP Commissioner Khan Saeed Hasan said a special combing operation is going on in the city to arrest the extremists. He denied the allegation that political leaders are feeling insecure.
